Orange Power Wellies

How do you like charging your mobile phone using energy that you yourself have generated? If you’re attending the Glastonbury Festival this year, you’ll have the chance to experience just that with the Orange Power Wellies.

What are these new green innovations? Well, these are simply pairs of boots that you wear as you go about with your activities during the festival. While you do so, the soles of the boots collect heat that you can use to charge your mobile phone later on. The Power Wellies are products of the collaboration between Orange and GotWind.

Unofficial Lego MP3 Player

The “Homade LEGO MP3 player” is neither home-made nor officially a LEGO product, but its clever design—each nub is a button—is almost enough to convince me to make a purchase, despite a price of $46 with no built-in memory (it takes microSD) and a size considerably larger than a real LEGO element. (I can’t quite figure out exactly how large the player might be, although I doubt it’s 24 centimeters long as is stated on the product page. It uses a single AA battery for power, though, so that should give some rough idea.)

iPhone 4

Sure, you’ve seen it before, but that doesn’t make it any less amazing. (This official announcement does, however, make it a little less illegal.) Taking a huge leap from the past three iterations, iPhone 4 ($200-$300) makes up for the past six months of killer Android releases with features like an Apple A4 processor, app multitasking, 7 hours of talk time, a backlit 5-megapixel camera with an LED flash and 720p video recording (and iMovie), a front-facing camera for FaceTime video calls, an eye-popping 960 x 640 Retina display, an all glass and stainless steel body, and a profile that’s skinnier than the latest winner of America’s Next Top Model.

Pinhole Spy Toothbrush Hidden Camera

Chinese manufacturers keep working hard to push the world forward into a hole of crappy amateur porn, one spy pinhole camera at a time. But when they add one to an Oral-B electric toothbrush, you know things won’t end well. The $243 Pinhole Spy Toothbrush Hidden Camera records 640×480 video in AVI format, using its internal 8GB flash memory. According to their product site, it looks exactly like a real electric toothbrush.

LG Flutter Concept Phone

Concept phones always look interesting, though very often the design isn’t practical for day-to-day use if it were made into a real product. The Flutter was an entrant for LG’s recently concluded Design the Future contest that encouraged users to come up with concept designs. This design didn’t win the competition, though it did manage to grab the Prop Master’s Choice Award. When closed, the Flutter looks quite sleek with only its numeric keypad showing, though we’re not too sure how the user is expected to see what’s going on. The phone can be split open to reveal a display that fans out, sporting a user interface that looks like an exact clone of Apple’s iPhone. Don’t expect to see this phone appearing in shops anytime soon.

Tron-Themed NES

Once fully charged with black light, Thretris‘ modded NES really comes to life, glowing with a brightness that could only be bested if it were electroluminescent. For added effect, Thretris added some cool blue LEDs behind the power switches. The mod also has a pair of 1/4″ audio jacks so you can hook the console up to a stereo system (even though the sound is still mono).

MP3 Sneakers

These sneakers give the term “kicks” a whole new meaning, eh? Dada is set to launch a set of running shoes with built-in MP3 players in them, called “Code M”. Of course, it wouldn’t be practical to have an extra long headphone cord running from your feet up to your head, so they have decided to integrate a wireless music system in these shoes, so that you can receive the tunes on your wireless headset.
